Spotlight on Moms – Janelle

Your Name: Janelle LossJanelle_Harper

How many kids do you have and how old are they? Harper Lynn, 2 years old

Do they have a favorite exercise to do with you? We love taking walks around the neighborhood, swimming and playing basketball

Do they have any favorite healthy foods?

She loves fresh fruit, it’s a daily snack in our house. We also eat Dr. Steve’s eggs with asparagus almost every weekend and whenever we’re in a hurry, she gets a dynamic greens, blueberries and oats shake.

Do you have any tricks to get your kids to eat healthier foods or make healthier choices?

My advice to parents with younger kids is to start them out early. We made all of Harper’s baby food and sent healthier choices to daycare when she was younger so she really doesn’t know any different. Also, everything in moderation. She thinks getting two Unreal Chocolate Candies is a huge treat! I cringe when I see parents feeding their children an entire bag of candy or cupcake.

As you have learned more about health and wellness, what goals do you have for your family and children?

My husband and I would like our daughter to live a healthy, active life. She will grow up knowing the importance of health and fitness. I have a horrible sugar addiction that I think has a lot to do with my upbringing. I am confident that she won’t grow up with the same struggles since we don’t overexpose her to unhealthy foods.

What obstacles have you overcome as a mother to maintain your health and wellness?

Finding the right balance between work, home and staying active. The multiple class times Eupraxia offers are one of the main reasons I joined. I can go at 5 a.m. before my daughter is awake on days we have something going on at night. I’m lucky that my husband values exercise as much as I do, so I am never given a hard time about needing to get in a daily workout!

How and why has being a member at Eupraxia impacted your roll as a mother and/or wife?

Working out is my only hobby. I’m much happier now that I’ve joined and established a regular workout routine. I also have discovered many new options to feed my daughter with the recipes and Dr. Steve’s talks. I learned at the first seminar that I attended that I was feeding my daughter way too much dairy thinking it was a healthy snack.

Dr. Steve says to have a purpose for staying healthy. How do you make your children a part of this purpose?

My daughter IS my purpose for staying healthy. I want to be the best role model I can be and I want to be able to keep up with her and, someday far, far away, my grandchildren. We are a pretty active family so she will grow up with that being the norm.

How have you passed on what you have learned at Eupraxia to your children?

She’s a bit young yet, but she’ll be doing burpees soon enough 😉

What advice do you have for moms just starting their journey?

Don’t feel guilty about feeding your child healthier options. People made and still make me feel like I’m depriving my daughter of something because I don’t feed her candy, cookies and cake when really, I’m preparing her for a better future without the struggles that I deal with daily.

Anything else you would like to share?

If you start out feeding your child the best options, they won’t know any different. My daughter is convinced that the blueberry paleo muffins I make are cupcakes and she loves them!
