Spotlight on Moms – Amy

May 16, 2014 0 Comments

Your Name: Amy Schuster Amy and kids

How many kids do you have and how old are they? 2 Children, Rachel 16 and Alex 13

Do they have a favorite exercise to do with you? With me no, I am mom and it is no longer “cool” to work out with. But I have enrolled my children in sports and exercise since then were 3 years old. Rachel loves running, weight lifting and yoga. Alex loves is Basketball, Baseball, Hockey and running

Do they have any favorite healthy foods? Yes: All fresh fruit the more fruit the better, especially pineapple. Vegetables raw: carrots, cooked veggies, Broccoli, Cauliflower, carrots, Vegetable Medley of any kind. They also like the new Paleo dishes I have been making.

Do you have any tricks to get your kids to eat healthier foods or make healthier choices? They are old enough that we can talk about healthy choices even though they still eat Pizza, chips, and candy. They do not eat it as often as they use to. Frozen Pizza was a staple at our house. We do make healthier meal and snack choices together, Rachel is on the right track but Alex is a mean lean eating machine; so he likes to eat A LOT he will eat an entire Pizza and then asks: “Mom, What is for supper?”

As you have learned more about health and wellness, what goals do you have for your family and children? I have been working on cleaning out my cupboards and get away from the processed foods. I love whole foods and I am taking the time to prep food and meals for the week so we do not fall back into bad eating habits. My kids love coming home from school and the fruit and veggies are already cleaned and cut up in the fridge for them to snack on.

What obstacles have you overcome as a mother to maintain your health and wellness? I have overcome eating at fast food restaurants. They use to be a staple in my weekly diet. With educating myself and my children I cannot even think about eating at a fast food restaurant. Until I started reading on Paleo and clean eating I was poisoning myself and my children, and I did not even realize it.

How and why has being a member at Eupraxia impacted your role as a mother and/or wife? Eupraxia has impacted me by realizing how bad our eating habits and exercise habits have become in our house and in society. I enjoy making new Paleo dishes and then tweaking them (keeping them clean) so we can enjoy them and my children love the left overs. I am setting a positive example for my kids to eat whole foods and exercise to stay healthy.

Dr. Steve says to have a purpose for staying healthy. How do you make your children a part of this purpose? I make my children a part of my purpose because I have learned how important clean eating is. I really don’t want my children to have an unhealthy lifestyle growing up like I did. I want to educate them what Steve teaches at his nutrition classes, there is no “magic pill” to cure what we think ails us but a good clean lifestyle will help us live a great life.

How have you passed on what you have learned at Eupraxia to your children? By setting an example every day to exercise and eat healthy.

What advice do you have for moms just starting their journey? You must embrace what is taught in the nutrition class and while working out. It is a struggle and it is a lifestyle change. You need your partner on board, if you don’t it will put a strain on your relationship and on your success. I work at it every day with my husband and he will eat the clean dishes I make but then he orders Chinese and A & W at work. Plus he keeps buying pop for the house and it drives me nuts but I am hoping he will start making the same lifestyle changes I have been working on. You can make it happen if you just start educating yourself. You have to believe in yourself and not fall off the wagon with just one piece of pizza or just one candy bar. (Like I have done many times) For me Eupraxia is my life line for a better lifestyle for me and my children. Mind over matter and you can do it.
